BEST OF MUSIC 2013: HOTTEST ARTISTS OF THE YEAR

by Albert Rodriguez and Jessica Price - SGN A&E Writers

Many musical performers enjoyed a banner year in 2013, but we only have room for 10 on our list. Here are our picks for the very hottest artists of the past 12 months, in ranking order.

1. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
J.T. didn't just dominate 2013, he conquered it. A chart-topping album, sold out world tour, two Hollywood films, Emmy nomination and 7 Grammy nods partially sums up his successful year. -A. Rodriguez

2. MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS
Seattle's hometown hip hop heroes took a stand for equality this year, ending it with three sold out Key Arena shows (a local record) and seven Grammy nominations. -J. Price

3. DAFT PUNK
Their fourth album, Random Access Memories, was one of the year's most widely anticipated new releases and gathered rave reviews for collaborations with Giorgio Moroder, Nile Rodgers, Julian Casablancas, Pharrell Williams, and more. -J. Price

4. MILEY CYRUS
Love her or heavily dislike her, Miley Cyrus catapulted to pop stardom this year and got everyone talking, and I do mean everyone. -A. Rodriguez

5. ROBIN THICKE
Resistance is futile to the dangerously catchy, seriously chauvinistic #1 hit single, 'Blurred Lines,' whose 'director's cut' video immediately went viral and featured partially nude models. -J. Price

6. fun.
Grammy winners for Best New Artist and Song of the Year, this Brooklyn trio, and huge LGBT supporters, broke through big time in 2013. -A. Rodriguez

7. THE LUMINEERS
Hit single 'Ho Hey' turned up everywhere this year, from Bing commercials to The Vampire Diaries to random melodramatic yoga classes worldwide. -J. Price

8. CHER
What farewell? The Gay icon strutted back into the spotlight with a new album, live appearance on The Voice and a world tour announcement that brings her to Seattle on Pride weekend. -A. Rodriguez

9. HEART
This year saw Seattle veterans Heart be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and deliver a powerful Bumbershoot performance to a jam-packed Key Arena. -A. Rodriguez

10. IMAGINE DRAGONS
You don't go from playing small clubs to sports arenas overnight. Actually, you do, if you're Imagine Dragons, who rose to international fame and nabbed a Record of the Year Grammy nomination for 'Radioactive.' -A. Rodriguez
