Duncan Sheik interview coming January 31

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

It seems whenever Seattle Gay News speaks to Duncan Sheik, he's cooking up something new bound for Broadway. The award-winning composer, and a great pop singer-songwriter as well, revealed details of Spring Awakening several years ago when we chatted by phone. That musical went on to win 8 Tony Awards in 2007. Sheik has been multi-tasking recently on American Psycho, a new musical that opened in London just a few weeks ago, and a collection of original songs that are to be included on his forthcoming 2014 album. Sheik is set to appear February 10 at The Triple Door, and he'll go one-on-one with the SGN in our January 31 issue. For tickets to the show, go to www.thetripledoor.net.

What were the top-selling albums of 2013 domestically? According to Billboard magazine, they were: 1) The 20/20 Experience by Justin Timberlake, 2) Red by Taylor Swift, 3) Take Me Home by One Direction, 4) Unorthodox Jukebox by Bruno Mars, 5) Babel by Mumford & Sons, 6) Night Visions by Imagine Dragons, 7) Here's to the Good Times by Florida Georgia Line, 8) The Truth About Love by Pink, 9) Crash My Party by Luke Bryan, and 10) Unapologetic by Rihanna.

What's our favorite music diva - Madonna, of course - up to in 2014? Supposedly, the Pop Queen has two albums set for release this year, a recording of original material and a collection of remixes. There are also rumors of a possible book release. Something is likely to happen on February 12, a date featured on a huge billboard spotted in Tokyo. I'm on it - stay glued for Madonna news in the coming weeks and months.

Brit Brit has arrived! In Las Vegas, that is. Britney Spears opened her Planet Hollywood residency on December 27 with a guest appearance by Lance Bass (on a leash, of all things) and some celebs in the audience, like Miley Cyrus. Miss Bangerz hosted a post-concert bash at the MGM Grand (I've stayed there, cool hotel) with Katy Perry, Kellan Lutz, Adam Lambert, Emile Hirsch and Selena Gomez all showing up.

Finally, if you attended the NCAA Division I Volleyball National Championships at Key Arena last month, then you probably spotted Ray Dalton, featured on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' 'Can't Hold Us,' sitting just below the Penn State cheering section. But the baritone singer was cheering for the hometown University of Washington Huskies, I assure you. Hollis Wong-Wear, who appears on the hip hop duo's 'White Walls' single, sang the National Anthem before the start of the championship match between Penn State and Wisconsin, and she sang the hell out of it!
