Tenth Annual Golden Crown Literary Conference to be held in Portland this summer

During the Tenth Annual Golden Crown Literary Conference, in Portland, OR, July 9-13, 2014, the Golden Crown Literary Society (GCLS) will host educational seminars/workshops for readers and writers as well as provide opportunities to meet published authors. Social events will include author chats, karaoke nights, meet and greet parties and special activities for new attendees. There will be pitch sessions as well, in which an aspiring author will be offered the chance to pitch a book idea to several Lesbian publishing companies.

Authors Lori L. Lake and Ann Bannon will offer special presentations.

The culmination of the four-day event will be presentation of the annual Goldies, the Golden Crown Literary Awards for excellence in Lesbian literature. In 2005, the first Goldie awards were given in four categories: romance, mystery/thriller, sci-fi/fantasy, and debut author. As of 2013, Goldies were given in twelve regular categories plus four special awards: The Ann Bannon Popular Choice Award, The Lee Lynch Classic Award, The Directors' Award, and The Trailblazer Award. In 2014, eBooks will be added.

Links are online at www.goldencrown.org to make it easy to register for the conference and to book hotel reservations at the Red Lion Hotel on the River Jantzen Beach. The website also has links where one can nominate books for the Goldies, sign up to be a sponsor, and offer ideas for sessions, panels, author chats and classes. Attendees can also sign up to mentor a novice writer or be mentored by a professional in how to improve a manuscript for publication.

The Golden Crown Literary Society Conference is a great opportunity for readers, authors, aspiring writers, editors, publishers, and media to learn about and meet colleagues as they explore Lesbian literature.

Membership in the GCLS is not required to attend.

For more about the conference, as well as a tentative schedule, please visit the GCLS website at www.goldencrown.org
