A reunited Nickel Creek to play Paramount Theatre

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

In an interview with Seattle Gay News two weeks ago, Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket revealed that bluegrass trio Nickel Creek had reunited. He was right. The Grammy-winning three-piece, whom I've previously met backstage at the Paramount Theatre, will release their first album in 9 years on April 1 entitled A Dotted Line, which will be boosted by a tour that includes a Seattle date. Nickel Creek is set to appear May 17 at the Moore Theatre, part of a four-month tour that already includes sold out shows in New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Boston and Nashville. Tickets for the Seattle performance go on sale February 21 (10 a.m.) at Ticketmaster, or online at www.LiveNation.com, or by calling (877) 784-4849.

Were you considering seeing Robin Thicke live at WaMu Theatre? Stop considering. The devilishly handsome singer has axed his March 26 performance in Seattle, and there are no current plans to reschedule it. Ticket refunds are available at your point of purchase, or visit www.ticketmaster.com for information.

'Same Love' in the United Arab Emirates? Yes, indeed! Four-time Grammy winners Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will fly nearly 7,500 miles to the gulf nation for a performance on April 25. The Emerald City-based duo will appear in the capital city, Abu Dhabi, on the man-made Yas Island, marking their first-ever Middle Eastern live show. Tickets are priced between $80 and $161 USD, or $1000 USD for a table. Special guests, who will open the concert, will soon be announced.

Weeks ago, I mentioned a Tokyo billboard tied into a Madonna project. A tour announcement? New album release date? It's neither. The Material Girl is actually launching her own skin care product line in Japan's capital at Omotesando, a cosmetics boutique that will sell 'MDNA Skin' at their shop beginning February 23. The products are said to be targeting female consumers and no word yet on whether Madonna will expand her line to add men's items. The pop queen is expected to put out a new album in 2014.

You snooze, you lose. These concerts are now sold out: G-Easy on March 7 (The Showbox Market), Bring Me the Horizon on March 24 (The Showbox SoDo), Young the Giant on April 5 (The Showbox Market, tickets for the April 6 performance still available), Bastille on April 8 (The Showbox SoDo), Ellie Goulding on April 23 (Paramount Theatre), The 1975 on April 24 (The Showbox Market), The Glitch Mob on May 3 (The Showbox Market, tickets for the May 4 performance still available) and Lindsey Stirling on May 21 (The Showbox Market), And, the Lorde concert on March 24 (WaMu Theatre) is close to selling out.

Finally, the performers lineup for the upcoming Oscars telecast will feature Idina Menzel, Keren O, Pharrell Williams and U2. Seattle Gay News is co-hosting an Oscar bash on March 2 at Purr.
