Curtain UP: Seattle's 2014-15 Theatre Season

Seattle is one of the top three big theatre cities in the United States.

It is with great pleasure that the new season of main stage musicals is being announced.

Whether it is a traditional classic musical or something new and original there is something for everyone at the Paramount Theatre or The 5th Avenue Theatre here in Seattle.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast
October 21-26, 2014

This 'tale as old as time' is tried and true. The classic Disney-brought-to-life production tells the musical love story of looking beyond the surface and the importance of what's inside a person that makes them whole.

NOTE: This is an add-on/bonus show that can be added to a regular season subscription.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical
December 2-7, 2014

The Dr. Seuss classic has been transformed into a live action stage musical. Max the Dog retells the story of the green Grinch as he tries to steal Christmas from Whoville.

Dirty Dancing - The Musical
January 20 - February 1, 2015

Based on the hit film, the musical follows the love story of Johnny, a dance instructor from the wrong side of the tracks, and Baby, a girl attending the summer camp Johnny teaches at. Featuring many of the songs from the film including 'Hungry Eyes,' 'Do You Love Me?' and the unofficial anthem, '(I've Had) The Time of My Life.' Nobody puts Baby in the corner!

Cinderella by Rodgers and Hammerstein
February 24 - March 1, 2015

From the recent Broadway revival, the classic fairytale is transformed onto the stage. With some of the most remembered songs including 'In My Own Little Corner,' and 'Impossible/It's Possible,' this classic is enchanting for anyone.

Mamma Mia!
March 24-29, 2015

Three possible fathers, a mother, and a wedding you'll never forget! One of the most beloved musicals of the modern age, the music is ALL ABBA and will have you tapping your toe and dancing in the aisles!

Phantom of the Opera
April 30 - May 10, 2015

The longest running show in Broadway history has undergone a revision for this latest tour. Hailed as 'bigger and better than ever before,' new choreography and new special effects (including the famous falling chandelier), this production also boasts a cast and orchestra of 52 individuals.

Get ready for the music of the night!

WICKED!
July 8 - August 2, 2015

One of the world's most popular musicals, this story tells the tale of the witches of Oz before an upstart named Dorothy appears. One of the 10 longest running musicals in Broadway history, this musical doesn't disappoint and should NOT be missed!

Pippin
August 18-23, 2015

The first official Broadway revival of the Stephen Schwartz musical, Pippin won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. Filled with 'intrigue, plots to bring disaster' as well as 'humor, handled by a master,' the musical tells the story of Pippin the Great, son of Charlemagne, who wants to find his 'Piece of the Sky.'

The 5th Avenue Theatre has long been a tradition in Seattle. Responsible for over 15 original musicals, the 5th Avenue has sent more than nine to Broadway, with at least two (Hairspray, Memphis) winning Best Musical. The new season brings back several classics as well as the premier of a new musical debut.

A Chorus Line
September 3-28, 2014

The winner of nine Tony Awards as well as the Pulitzer Prize in Drama, several giants of the American stage including choreography by Michael Bennett, book by James Kirkwood, and music by the late Marvin Hamlisch created this musical. Filled with great songs, this musical is for the hope in all of us.

Kinky Boots - the Musical
October 7-26, 2014

Direct from Broadway this recent smash hit won major awards at the 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score. With music and lyrics written by the legendary Cyndi Lauper, the musical tells the story of a man trying to save his family's shoe factory and the help he gets from a very unexpected source; a loud female impersonator named Lola!

A Christmas Story - the Musical
November 25 - December 31, 2014

Coming full circle, this musical got its start at the 5th Avenue before becoming a holiday staple on the Broadway circuit. Based on the beloved movie, the musical is filled with 'triple-dog-dares,' and tongues getting stuck to frozen flag poles, but comes with a warning: 'You'll shoot your eye out!'

Carousel
February 5 - March 1, 2015

Special collaboration with the Spectrum Dance Theatre

The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic musical tells the tumultuous love story of Billy Bigelow, a carousel barker and con man that seduces the sweet Julie Jordan. After his death, Billy is given one last chance to make things right for those he left behind.

Jacques Brel is Alive and Well & Living in Paris
March 7 - May 17, 2015

Special collaboration with ACT: A Contemporary Theatre Rarely done, this musical review of the Belgian singer/songwriter has long been a classic in cabaret. Several songs have gone on to be recorded by such artists as Neil Diamond, Nirvana and David Bowie.

Something Rotten!
April 29 - May 24, 2015

A World Premier musical! This musical comedy tells the story of two brothers (Nick and Nigel Bottom) in Renaissance England. Foiled by their nemesis William Shakespeare, they decide to write a play & with songs making the world's first musical.

Grease
July 9 - August 2, 2015

The 5th Avenue Theatre brings its season to a close with one of the world's favorite musicals, Grease. Whether you are a Pink Lady or a T-Bird, don't be a Beauty School Dropout. Get to class - you can pass!
