Ann Hampton Calloway taking on Streisand catalog in Tacoma

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Tony-nominated artist Anne Hampton Calloway is set to tackle one of the most regarded music catalogs of all time, that belonging to none other than Babs. The pop-jazz performer will pay homage to the legendary diva in a show called 'Anne Hampton Calloway Presents the Streisand Songbook' at Tacoma's Pantages Theater on March 22. The concert will highlight some of Streisand's timeless material, such as 'People' and 'The Way We Were', as well as compositions from the star's film and stage work. Tickets, priced between $35 and $79, are on sale now at www.broadwaycenter.org.

Here are more live shows coming in and around Seattle soon: Snoop Dogg with Wiz Khalifa at WaMu Theater (April 19), One More Time - A Tribute to Daft Punk at The Showbox Market (April 26), Justin Nozuka at Tractor Tavern (May 4), Mickey Avalon at The Crocodile (May 15), Eels with Chelsea Wolfe at Moore Theatre (June 7) and Bella Donna - A Tribute to Stevie Nicks at Muckleshoot Casino (June 13).

It's a milestone for Glee! The TV musical series celebrates its 100th episode next month with a two-parter that includes fan-voted songs from the show's 5.5 seasons. The FOX dramedy, which often tackles issues affecting LGBT youth, began the second half of season 5 last week. Most of the original clan (Brittany, Mercedes, Quinn, Mike, Puck) are returning for the episode, split between March 18 and 25, and so are guest stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Kristin Chenowith. The song list includes 'Keep Holding On,' 'Toxic,' 'Raise Your Glass,' 'Defying Gravity' and 'Just Give Me a Reason.'

Now that it's safe to visit Arizona again, and honestly it's one of my favorite long weekend destinations, you might want to consider heading there for Cher's tour kickoff on March 22 at the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix. The Westin Downtown Phoenix, one of SGN's Top 10 Hotels of 2013, has assembled a shoop-shoop of a package for the event that includes room + overnight parking, two METRO light rail tickets and two cocktails at its premiere restaurant-lounge, Province. What it doesn't include, but probably should, is the sparkle and glitter that would really make it an all-out fabulous little getaway, like a Closer to the Truth CD, pre-concert pedi, glow sticks, Moonstruck DVD, or hangover breakfast the next morning - c'mon, it's Cher!! Still, with rates starting at $99 and an unbeatable location - five minutes walking distance to the arena - not to mention, a stylish hotel with incredible views, it's a deal that you have to experience to 'Believe.' Go to www.westinphoenixdowntown.com to book your reservation or call 866-716-8137 and mention rate plan LUPKG. The 'Dressed to Kill Tour' descends on Seattle on Pride weekend, June 28.

Finally, if you're loving Seattle's own BenDeLaCreme on RuPaul's Drag Race - and who isn't? - see her at Chop Suey on March 7 when she hosts 'Tuck!', a gender-bending dance party for kings and queens on the scene. ('That's what it says, I don't make this shit up.') Go to www.chopsuey.com for ticket information.
