Local, female focused, comedy show is turning one!

'The Comedy Womb started as a dream to get more women into stand up comedy in Seattle in April 2013, and now, nearly a year later, it is an open mic/showcase with a strong following that has managed to attract over a hundred different female stand up comics to its stage. So many that we are moving to two nights a week for the anniversary. Not only have we attracted women to stand up but there have also been more instances of comics within the GLBTQ community taking up stand up due to the fact that the Comedy Womb is a room that has a no-hate mandate. A space that also has the effect of educating through humor. It is amazing.' - Founder Danielle K. L. Gregoire

The Comedy Womb, Seattle's only weekly female focused, but not female exclusive, comedy showcase is celebrating it's first anniversary on April 1st and 2nd in The Grotto at The Rendezvous (2322 2nd Ave.) in Belltown. Every Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m., a number of local female comics gather to showcase their talents in an open mic style showcase.

A year ago, Danielle K.L. Gregoire noticed there was a great disparity between the amount of female comics in Seattle and the amount of females participating in the stand-up comedy showcases. This realization prompted Danielle to start a weekly showcase that provided a space where women were not only recognized as funny, but also were able to begin their stand up comedy careers in a safe space. The environment is free of misogyny, racism and homophobia in order to create a more comfortable space for beginning female comics. At the Comedy Womb a diverse range of comics spanning gender, race, age, sexuality and levels of hilarity find a space to come together and an audience who recognizes the importance of open mic events when building a career in comedy.

This April, the Comedy Womb is moving to two nights a week, every Tuesday and Wednesday, in order to accommodate the incredible increase of female participants who are looking to try stand-up comedy for the first time. On April 1st, come celebrate the Comedy Womb's first birthday with a great open mic showcase featuring many of the Womb's favorite comics and two comics who started their careers on the same day Comedy Womb began - Mitch Mitchell and Aaron Fishbein.
