Body Diversity Photo Project Call for Art

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

Social Outreach Seattle (SOSea), a social justice nonprofit, continues with another 2014 community forum combined with the BODY DIVERSITY PHOTO PROJECT. In February, SOSea focused on the Lesbian community. This time they are focusing on the Gay community.

The SOSea GAY LIFE COMMUNITY FORUM & BODY DIVERSITY PHOTO PROJECT is scheduled for 6:30- 8 p.m. at The Summit (420 E. Pike St.) May 20. Some refreshments will be provided and wine will be available for purchase. It is important to note that children and youth of all ages are welcome to attend this event.

COMMUNITY DISCUSSION
The panel of speakers will feature a diverse group of Gay men that will discuss what it means to them to be Gay in 2014. The panel includes House Music DJ and Co-Creator/Radio Personality for 'Now Serving' DJ Almond Brown, aerial arts enthusiast and bartender at Purr Andrew Flewelling, Peruvian recording artist and SOSea Director of Outreach to the LGBTQ and Allied Latin Community Jack Mozie, ordained minister of Metropolitan Community Churches (first LGBT denomination in the US) Rev. Ray Neal, philanthropist and Seattle recording artist Eric Blu, Seattle drag queen Jessica Paradisco, and more.

In addition to the constructed conversation, a Q&A session will take place to ensure that we have a robust talk overall. No questions will be off limits.

The photography exhibit for the BODY DIVERSITY PHOTO PROJECT will be on display in addition to the forum. Guests may enjoy talking with the photographers that took the photo as well as the models that posed for the portraits. The photos on display will be available for purchase at the forum.

CALL FOR ART
SOSea has the topic selected so now they are asking for people to send in art.

'Please invite your expert or novice friends that are photographers to join us for this evening of honest discussion and exposure to Gay art,' said SOSea in a press release.

Submitting a photo is easy. Send your photo submission via email to SocialOutreachSeattle@gmail.com. The best 20 images will be displayed the evening of the event. All images should be hi-res, at least 5x7, and 300 dpi.

There is no cap on the number of photos you can enter into the contest. So enter as many as you'd like!

The deadline for photo submissions is May 18, 6 p.m.

Questions? Sponsorship information? Please contact SOSea at SocialOutreachSeattle@gmail.com or 206-769-0238.
