One Night Only! - Seattle Men's Chorus performs critically acclaimed 'Falling In Love Again' at home, before Germany Tour begins

'FALLING IN LOVE AGAIN'
SEATTLE MEN'S CHORUS
PARAMOUNT THEATRE
JUNE 14

On June 14, at 8 p.m., Seattle Men's Chorus (SMC) will perform an entirely new staging of their critically acclaimed production, For a Look or a Touch, at The Paramount Theatre (911 Pine St.). SMC originally performed this Jake Heggie (composer) and Gene Scheer (librettist) commissioned piece in 2011; they will now revive it for one Seattle performance before launching a 12-day Germany concert tour. For a Look or a Touch, originally commissioned by Seattle's Music of Remembrance, is a powerful story about the relatively untouched, and unknown, subject of Gay persecution during the Holocaust. This moving one-act opera is a tragic and true love story that chronicles the impact the war had on Gad Beck (performed by actor Kip Niven of TV's 'Alice' and 'The Waltons') and Manfred Lewin (performed by operatic baritone Morgan Smith). Intiman Theatre's Producing Artistic Director, Andrew Russell, stage directs this revival; SMC's Artistic Director, Dennis Coleman, serves as conductor and musical director. This revival has an updated look: the SMC singers, orchestra, and staging are fully integrated into the production and the chorus members set the scenes of each movement to become different characters.

In addition to the concert there will be a FREE pre-concert panel conversation in the lobby at 7:00 p.m. The Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center provides lobby displays and panelists will be there to help audiences prepare for this moving concert; WSHER will address the global impact of the Holocaust and give an insightful look behind the music. Tickets to the performance are $25-$55 and available at www.SeattleMensChorus.org or over the phone at 877.784.4849.

Four days after the Seattle concert, 125 SMC singers, production team members and musicians join a dozen singing members from Kansas City's Heartland Men's Chorus to depart for Germany. This 12-day tour includes a featured performance at Europe's largest Gay Pride Celebration in Berlin; SMC will march in a parade and perform at the Brandenburg Gate at Berlin's Gay Pride (over 1 million people expected to attend). There are additional concerts scheduled in Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden, Krefeld, and one special performance at the Buchenwald concentration camp.
