R. Kelly's child comes out as Transgender

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

R. Kelly now has a direct tie to the LGBT community. The R&B singer's 13 year-old child Jaya Kelly recently came out as Transgender and has renamed himself Jay Kelly, much to the support of his mother Andrea Kelly, a reality TV series star, and big sister Joann. His father, a Grammy winning artist who penned the inspirational anthem 'I Believe I Can Fly,' has commented briefly on the matter, but has not voiced immediate support for Jay, only to say that 'At the end of the day, it's not about me no more. It's about three lovely, lovely kids that I am in love with and that's in love with me.' (Interview with Chicago radio station WGCI). You can follow Jay Kelly via his Ask.fm page.

The lineup for the 7th Annual Doe Bay Festival on Orcas Island, in the San Juan Islands, includes Cody ChesnuTT, Truckasaurus, Hobosexual, Joe Pug, Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, Modern Kin, and Quiet Life. It's an intimate, mellow event with beautiful scenery and 23 bands/singer-songwriters set to perform on August 7-11. The festival takes place at the Doe Bay Resort & Retreat, which offers a variety of fun and foresty accommodations for those wanting to rough it in the woods and those who'd prefer to 'glamp' instead. Choose from cabins, hostel, yurts or camping at www.doebay.com. For more information on the festival, go to www.doebayfest.com.

If you followed Conchita Wurst on the Eurovision Song Contest and happen to be traveling to Europe this summer, you can catch her live when she performs at Antwerp Pride. The contest winner will appear during the Closing Festival on August 10, taking place at the main city's square. The bearded crooner made world headlines when she favorably won the multi-national talent competition, dressing in elegant gowns throughout the event. For details, visit www.antwerppride.com.

You snooze, you lose. New Order on July 6 (Paramount Theatre), Arctic Monkeys on August 11 and 12 (Paramount Theatre), Modest Mouse on July 18 (The Showbox Market), Goo Dolls & Daughtry with Plain White T's on July 19 (Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery), Jack White on July 25 and 26 (Paramount Theatre), Sam Smith on September 25 (Paramount Theatre), ZZ Top on August 9 (Chateau Ste.
