Bob Dylan kicking off tour in Seattle
by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

The legendary Bob Dylan has selected Seattle as the launch pad for his upcoming fall North American tour. The iconic folk-rock artist will begin a three-month itinerary with a trio of performances at the Paramount Theatre, October 17-19. He's previously played Key Arena and Memorial Stadium (for Bumbershoot), but his forthcoming shows at the Paramount will certainly give fans a much more intimate experience. Dylan has a new album in the works, though no release date or details have yet been announced for it; he will put out another compilations package, The Basement Tapes Complete, on November 4. Tickets for his Seattle concerts go on sale September 5 (10 a.m.) via www.livenation.com.

Cat Power has announced a concert date for Olympia on her brief autumn outing, performing October 1 at the Capitol Theater. Known also as Chan Marshall, the indie singer-songwriter hasn't released any new material since 2012's Sun album, but perhaps she'll unleash a fresh batch of tunes at the Olympia show. For tickets, go to www.axs.com.

The MTV VMAs have come and gone, but you can catch a few of the winners on stage in the coming days. Katy Perry, who nabbed the Moonman statue for Best Female Video will appear September 13 at the Tacoma Dome, while Best Hip Hop Video recipient Drake is headed to White River Amphitheatre with Lil Wayne the day after, on September 14. And, pop sensation Ariana Grande is slipping into town on September 4 to sing the National Anthem at CenturyLink Field during the NFL's season kick-off festivities. Grande shared the Pop Video award with Iggy Azalea for their collaborative hit 'Problem.'

A reminder that the 2014 Decibel Festival, with electronic music as its centerpoint, is taking place September 24-28 at multiple venues here in Seattle. This year's lineup includes Baths, Pete Tong, Son Lux, Nordic Soul, and BRAIDS. A complete roster of artists and ticket information is available at www.dbfestival.com.

You snooze, you lose. The following live concerts are now sold out: Die Antwoord on September 22 (Paramount Theatre), Sam Smith on September 25 (Paramount Theatre), alt-J on October 15 (Paramount Theatre), and Hozier on October 21 (The Showbox Market).

Finally, Contemporary Christian singer Vicky Beeching, who's worked with several key players in her genre (e.g., Matthew West, Joy Williams) revealed that she is a Lesbian during a recent interview. Her last recording, before relocating back to her native England to pursue a PhD, was 2010's Eternity Invades.
