Sistah Sinema presents 'Zombie Love' - just in time for Halloween!

On Friday, October 31, doors at 6 p.m., screening at 7 p.m., at Life Enrichment Bookstore (5023 Rainier Ave. S.), Sistah Sinema presents 'Zombie Love.' After months of searching, we found a killer - get it 'killer,' hehe! - selection of Queer women of color zombie shorts for all you 'Walking Dead' fans. Feel free to come zombiefied or in your best Michonne outfit. Following is a description of the zombie shorts:

Book of Lilith: As the leader of a camp of survivors of the zombie apocalypse, Lilith stealthily wipes out zombies to ensure the survival of her group. But even she can't protect everyone. Who will make it to salvation?

Outside: Set in a post-apocalyptic society where people are isolated in sealed bunkers, a young Latina woman is forced to confront her fears of the unknown when she makes contact with an outsider. Winner of the Comic-Con Independent Film Festival's 2006 Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Award.

A Night In the Woods: A gender non-conforming person of color and a young woman must learn to overcome their differences to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Good Night My Love: In an apartment building overrun by zombies, a Black Lesbian couple, Aimee and Cynthia, hide in a laundry room. They spend what may be their final moments hashing out issues that have plagued their 7-year relationship. Nominee - Best Narrative Short, PanAfrican Film Festival.

Sistah Sinema is an intimate event of less than 50 womyn showcasing queer womyn of color cinema. Each showing will be followed by a moderated discussion where attendees will be able to connect to each other and, occasionally, the filmmaker. Sistah Sinema was created to showcase the nuances of queer womyn of color culture. It is hoped that the movies will serve as a vehicle to foster honest dialogue on struggles and opportunities unique to queer womyn of color. While discussion will focus on the queer womyn of color, all members of the queer community are invited to attend.

Tickets are $10 advance and $12 at the door. We accept credit cards and cash at the door. www.sistahsinema.com.

In November Sistah Sinema-Seattle will screen Karmen Gel. Karmen Gel is an inmate in a women's prison in Senegal. Bisexual, lusty, impulsive, and looking out for herself at all time, her uninhibited dancing and sensual demeanor excite the Sapphic passions of the prison's warden. Film is in Wolof with English subtitles. Contact www.sistahsinema.com for details on the screening date or check with Life Enrichment Bookstore.

NOTE: There is currently a 2-for-1 Groupon available for Sistah Sinema. Groupon says: Sistah Sinema started, alliteratively, in Seattle. The mission is simple: to celebrate queer women of color in film. Each month, the team screens a movie created by a queer woman of color, followed by a discussion, in which viewers share their thoughts and unanimous feeling that popcorn could become popular. The events in Seattle drew such a following, that organizers quickly expanded across the country, to cities such as Portland, Greensboro, and Atlanta. The collective has displayed a diverse patchwork of films ranging from rom-coms and dramas to documentaries.
