One Direction includes Seattle on 2015 stadium tour

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Here they come! Boy band royalty will descend on Seattle next summer, as supergroup One Direction has announced a local date on their 'On The Road Again 2015 Stadium Tour.' The phenomenal five-piece is set to appear July 15 at CenturyLink Field, their only Northwest appearance on the road outing, thus far, to support their new album Four (November 17 release). If memory serves me correct, One Direction previously played at Everett's XFINITY Arena. Tickets for the CenturyLink Field performance go on sale November 1 at www.livenation.com.

If you missed Sam Smith's sold out concert at the Paramount Theatre this summer, you're not alone. That show had been sold out for weeks with fans frantically scouring Craigslist and eBay for tickets down the homestretch. The good news is Smith is returning to Seattle, now scheduled to appear February 2 at Key Arena. A strong Grammy contender going into the nominations announcement in early December, Smith continues to support his top-selling album The Lonely Hour. Tickets, priced between $35.50 and $71, are on sale now at www.stgpresents.org.

Speaking of Grammy nominations, we'll find out December 6 who's in the running for the 2015 awards during the Grammy Nominations Concert LIVE!: Countdown to Music's Biggest Night telecast. Over 13,000 entries were submitted for the first round of balloting, and already recordings from Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, and Beyonce are poised to be among the top five selections for Album, Record, and Song of the Year, aside from other key categories. Other artists in the running going into the final balloting are Coldplay, Iggy Azalea, Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Eminem, Mariah Carey, The Black Keys, and the aforementioned Sam Smith, the lone frontrunner for Best New Artist.

A few more new shows to tell you about: Ariel Pink at Neumos (February 10), Miranda Lambert at the Tacoma Dome (February 13), Cold War Kids at The Showbox Market (February 20), A Flock of Seagulls at Muckleshoot Casino (February 21), and Los Lobos at The Triple Door (March 19-21).

Finally, the Earshot Jazz Festival continues this weekend with performances at the Royal Room, Tula's Restaurant & Jazz Club, Cornish College of the Arts, and Seattle Art Museum. For full artist lineup and information, go to www.earshot.org.
