Local DJ and fiancé want you to buy them a wedding gift - but not for the reason you might think

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

Anyone who knows Bret Tiderman or Kevin Moser won't be surprised by this; however, if you do not know either one of these two amazing men, you'll definitely want to after reading this! On December 14, Bret and Kevin will exchange vows and get married; something this fulltime DJ (Bret) and infrastructure developer (Kevin) fought for as members of Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

It is customary for folks who are getting married to register somewhere so people can buy gifts for the newlyweds - especially if you can't make it to the wedding. As Bret puts it, 'While we absolutely wanted to invite each and every one of you, but sadly we aren't able to do so.'

'Over the last 6 years, we've built a beautiful home, full of everything we could need so when deciding what to do about the wedding registry, we chose to do something a little different,' said Bret to his friend on Facebook. 'People love to buy wedding gifts (I know I do!) and wrap them and see a table at the ceremony over-flowing with gestures of love. With that in mind, we partnered with the fabulous Nearby Registry to create a registry that could do just that, except all the gifts would be able to be purchased locally and would all go to five designated charities that mean something to us.'

The charities Bret and Kevin chose are Lambert House, Lifelong, Seattle Children's Hospital, Seattle Humane: The Humane Society for Seattle/King County and Olympic Peninsula Humane Society.

'They all do amazing work, but need things to be able to continue to serve those in need,' said Bret. 'We took their wish lists, and created a registry of things you can get for us as wedding gifts. The true gift will be that in the first few months as a married couple, Kevin and I get to go to these places and share your love and support with them.'

He says they couldn't be more excited to be able to give back to the places they hold so dear, and to do so with the help of family and friends. Seattle Gay News heard about this and asked the couple if they didn't mind the general public helping out and they loved the idea. Aren't these two great!?

'If you'd like to purchase a wedding gift for us, please visit www.nearbyregistry.com/bretandKevin. There are gifts of all price ranges, so you could even get a couple that would go to multiple charities if you'd like,' said Bret.

'Kevin and I really want to be able to make a big difference, and maybe even set a trend, so that more people take this idea and find their own ways to give back when they can,' he said. 'So, feel free to share, post and tell people.'

'Thanks so much for all the love you've given to us as a couple,' said Bret.
