Madonna releases new singles ahead of album

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

You might want to thank Madonna for those brand new songs delivered to online music stores just before Christmas. Or, the hackers who forced her to release them early. The Material Girl gifted fans six new tunes from her upcoming album last weekend, 'Living For Love,' 'Devil Pray,' 'Ghosttown,' 'Unapologetic Bitch,' 'Illuminati' and 'Bitch I'm Madonna (featuring Nicki Minaj).' She immediately hit #1 on iTunes in 40 different countries. Rebel Heart is the title of Madonna's new album, set for a March release, to be followed by a world tour that will mark the 30th anniversary of her first-ever live outing, 1985's 'The Virgin Tour.' Cities and dates will be announced soon.

If you love rock and roll, you'll really love this. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will open for The Who on their 2015 tour. The group had a string of 80s hits, including 'I Hate Myself for Loving You,' 'Bad Reputation,' 'Crimson and Clover,' 'Do You Wanna Touch Me,' and their signature hit, 'I Love Rock and Roll.' Jett and the Blackhearts will open all shows for The Who, including the Seattle concert at Key Arena on September 27, as well as the Portland (September 25) and Vancouver (September 27) performances. They'll also support the Foo Fighters on July 4th when they land at RFK Stadium, in the nation's capital. Tickets for The Who tour are on sale now at www.axs.com. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were recently chosen to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Speaking of opening acts, award-winning saxophonist Dave Koz will join Barry Manilow on his 'One Last Time Tour' next year, including the Seattle show on May 27. The jazz-pop musician, who came out 10 years ago, is now part owner of Spaghettini & the Dave Koz Lounge, a restaurant and live music venue that opened its doors this month in Beverly Hills. Koz also released a new album in 2014 called The 25th Of December. Tickets are on sale now for all Manilow dates at www.axs.com.

Lisa Fischer is returning to Seattle for another round of performances at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley. The Grammy Award winner, and nominee this year for her appearance on 20 Feet from Stardom, will play four consecutive nights at the downtown venue, March 12-15. Fischer blew the roof off the place in September when she performed back-to-back evenings at the same club, easily making my Best Live Performances Top Ten List of 2014. Chances are, she'll do it again; she's incredible live! For reservations, visit www.jazzalley.com, or call (206) 441-9729.

Finally, Happy New Year to everybody out there! It's been another awesome year reporting for Seattle Gay News about something I love, music. Here's to an amazing 2015 for me and you!
