Bush urged to keep 'concerns of all Americans' in mind when selecting the next Supreme Court nominee
Bush urged to keep 'concerns of all Americans' in mind when selecting the next Supreme Court nominee
"Anti-Gay activists have corrupted the judicial selection process in the Bush White House, and they are now demanding a nominee that will serve their needs rather than those of the American people," said Eric Stern, National Stonewall Democrats' executive director.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the National Stonewall Democrats called on the White House to expand its nomination selection process in the wake of the withdrawal of the nomination of Harriet Miers to the United States Supreme Court. Following Miers' nomination on October 03, numerous media sources revealed a nomination selection process that granted exclusive access to anti-Gay activists.

"The Bush Administration should keep the concerns of all Americans in mind when selecting the next nominee to the United States Supreme Court," said Eric Stern, NSD Executive Director. "Anti-Gay activists have corrupted the judicial selection process in the Bush White House, and they are now demanding a nominee that will serve their needs rather than those of the American people. President Bush has an opportunity to break the control held by these activists over the federal government by expanding his nomination selection process to include representatives of the Gay and Lesbian community, not just activists who seek to harm our families."

On October 06, The Washington Post reported that regular meetings had been occurring between the White House and anti-Gay advocates. The weekly meetings, designed to build support for judicial nominees from social conservatives, included senior White House staff, Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, Republican Senators and representatives from anti-Gay organizations such as the Eagle Forum, the Family Research Council and the Free Congress Foundation.

National Stonewall Democrats is the only national organization of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Democrats, with more than 90 local chapters across the nation. NSD is committed to working through the Democratic Party to advance the rights of all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
