SHAME on Seattle Pride!

On May 17th of this year, The Seattle Times printed an article saying that Delta Airlines will be the official airlines (and allegedly the ONLY airline allowed in the parade) for Seattle Pride.

This is appalling! Alaska Airlines is not only a local company but it has supported the LGBT community (especially in the Pacific Northwest) for a very long time and in many GENEROUS ways.

For Seattle Pride to sign a contract with the Atlanta based company is a direct slap in the face to Alaska Airlines - an extreme ally of our community. True, Delta is also a large supporter of the LGBT but Alaska Airlines is our home base and native to the Seattle area.

The deal with Delta (allegedly) prevents Alaska Airline employees from marching in the parade with the company logo visible. This has NEVER been the restriction when Alaska Airlines was offered the position.

Pride is for ALL people to come together - it is NOT for corporations to make a buck.

If this is how Seattle Pride rewards wonderful allies and friends of the LGBT, it is shameful.

I will stand in unity with my friends at Alaska Airlines and will be avoiding the Pride Parade this year. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME on Seattle Pride!

Eric Andrews-Katz

Delta buying the Pride Parade
Alaska Airlines exclusion

What a travesty! First, I think that the parade organizers should be ousted for accepting the exclusion of any one.

Secondly, I would call for the Gay community to fight back against exclusion of their brothers and sisters who happened to be employed by Alaska Airlines. This move toward exclusivity by Delta is counter to the ideals of the parade. It is expressing the idea that he who has the money makes the rules and in this case shame on Delta. Is Delta's corporate ego so very fragile that a group from another airlines marching in a community parade that is meant to fight exclusion is some how damaging to them? Why do they fear that? This is no way to act in an honorable way, Delta.

For those marching and those attending I urge you all to act up, push back and show Delta that you will not be bullied. Support Alaska employees, march against corporate bullies. Just because they have the money shouldn't mean they should make the rules for an entire community of people.
