Bar Republican pols from restrooms, Caitlyn Jenner says

by Mike Andrew - SGN Staff Writer

Speaking at a Republican 'Big Tent Brunch' event on July 20, Caitlyn Jenner suggested barring Republican officeholders from public restrooms as a safety measure.

'Over the last few years, we have three Republican state representatives who were all arrested for lewd behavior in a men's bathroom,' she said, mentioning former Mississippi Rep. John Hinson, former Idaho Sen. Larry Craig, and former Florida State Rep. Bob Allen.

'Maybe what we should do is ban Republican representatives at a state level' from entering public restrooms, Jenner joked. 'We want to protect people.'

While several states have passed legislation to force Transgender residents to use restrooms that correspond to the gender they were assigned at birth, Jenner cited studies showing there is no statistical evidence that Transgender individuals have committed illegal acts in restrooms.

The event where Jenner spoke - an outdoor brunch held in a tent outside Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - was organized by American Unity Fund and the Log Cabin Republicans, two GOP groups that advocate for LGBT equality.

American Unity Fund President Margaret Hoover called Jenner the 'most famous Republican in the world.'

Jenner replied that it was harder to come out as a Republican than as Transgender.

She added that the Democratic Party has done a better job of supporting the LGBT community and praised President Obama for allowing Trans individuals to openly serve in the military.

'I've been very disappointed over the last five, ten years [by the Republican Party], but I won't give up on it,' she said.

'The Republican Party needs to understand,' Jenner continued. 'They need to know people that are Trans.'

When asked if she saw herself as a potential Republican candidate for public office, Jenner begged off.

'They already nominated Donald [Trump] last night [for president]. I can't get into running, but I can make a difference,' Jenner responded.
