Seattle Transmedia & Independent Film Festival (STIFF) returns July 28-31 with boundary-crossing new work

The Seattle Transmedia & Independent Film Festival (STIFF) is ready to provide another opportunity for the city to experience the vanguard of digital storytelling. This July 28-31, audiences can enjoy and participate in the latest, cutting-edge accomplishments in the field of transmedia - that is, video games, feature films, interactive installations, virtual reality, and many more boundary-crossing works of art.

See the full lineup at stiff.eventbrite.com.

New this year: the festival will take over the glamorous Factory Luxe venue inside the historic Rainier Brewery Building at 3100 Airport Way S!

Highlights of LGBTQ programming include:

o Waack 4 Me (plays July 30 at 3pm) - The short film Waack 4 Me explores the revival of the 1970s expressive dance form which was first popularized by Soul Train, and is now being embraced by women and LGBT communities around the world.

o Tendercore (plays July 30 at 3pm) - Tendercore is a short film that seeks to explore fictional representation of gendered and sexualized bodies through the metaphor of an androgynous female amphibious alien.

o Brothers (plays July 31 at 3pm) - Brothers was the first narrative series about trans male friends to not only feature the stories of transgender men, but also to cast trans actors. The show follows four trans guys navigating life and love in Brooklyn and touches on a few of the many issues that face transgender individual: healthcare, dating, dysphoria, homophobia, identity and more.

o Vessels (plays July 31 at 3pm) - Diamond is a young Latina transgender woman living in Los Angeles. When her friend Hope shows off her new breasts she obtained through illegal black market silicone injections, Diamond is presented with an opportunity to gain the more feminine physique she has always wanted. The girls go visit the 'pumper,' Prayleen, who helps Diamond sculpt the body of her dreams.

o Dos Almas and InBetween (plays July 31 at 3pm) - These two pieces explore the fictional relationship between 2 women (a Mestiza and a Two-Spirit woman) in the western wilderness c.1850 from different backgrounds and belief systems. Gender, sexuality and spirituality are the main themes of Dos Almas, which are discussed and examined more in InBetween, while the filmmaker offers historical and autobiographical insight.

Says festival director Tim Vernor, 'Transmedia is at such an exciting point right now. The festival is a real opportunity for audiences to be the first to see this type of work - to say 'I was there.' Filmmakers are sure to leave inspired to move into this new frontier - the possibilities for producing great art are really just emerging.'

All-access festival passes and individual are currently on sale at stiff.eventbrite.com. Opening night tickets for the locally-produced documentary Screenagers are on sale now at tinyurl.com/stiff-screenagers.
