Lady GaGa announces world tour and Tacoma Dome show after phenomenal Super Bowl performance

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

As expected, shortly after giving a spectacular halftime performance during last weekend's Super Bowl LI, Lady GaGa unveiled dates for her upcoming 'Joanne World Tour.' The tour, stretching from mid-summer to mid-December, includes shows in North America and Europe with a Seattle concert scheduled for the Tacoma Dome on August 5, but not certain is whether she'll extend the tour into 2018 for Asia, Australia, and/or Latin America appearances. Lady GaGa, however, is confirmed to perform at the Rock in Rio festival, in Brazil, in September.

Joanne, released four months ago, is the fifth studio album by the pop superstar and features the hit 'Perfect Illusion.' To date, Lady GaGa has sold a whopping 30 million albums and 150 million copies of various singles to make her one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. Besides this, she is a social media giant with 61 million likes on Facebook, over 65.1 million followers on Twitter and over 21.3 million followers on Instagram.

Sunday afternoon's halftime performance by Lady GaGa was flawless, from song selection to stage lighting to wardrobe design to her own vocals, often overshadowed by theatrics during Super Bowl appearances. She began her mini-set by singing the choruses of 'God Bless America' and 'This Land is Your Land,' not entirely as a political statement, but perhaps as a plea for unity for our nation to band together in these intense times of transition. She then leapt from the roof, or maybe a makeshift roof, at Houston's NRG Stadium onto a platform and ripped into an intro that combined lyrics from 'The Edge of Glory' and the opening chords of 'Poker Face,' which she performed about two minutes of before moving onto 'Born This Way,' leaving in the words 'No matter gay, straight or bi.'

Snippets of 'Telephone,' minus Beyonce, and 'Just Dance' were also squeezed into the 12 to 13-minute performance, as was half of Lady GaGa's newer ballad 'Million Reasons.' She ended the show with a quick costume change, going from a metallic one-piece with matching high-heeled boots to a shoulder pad-themed top and glittery pair of bikini shorts, as she sang 'Bad Romance' complete with sharp choreography, fire bombs and wailing on the chorus while dancing on an elevated platform. She looked great, sounded great and the entire production from start to finish was well conceived and executed.

Fans, or 'Little Monsters' as they refer to themselves, tuned in from around the world, including Brazil, Mexico, Germany and the UK. Enter 'Lady GaGa reaction' on the YouTube search engine and you'll find dozens of videos by fans reacting to her Super Bowl performance in real time.

Next up for Lady GaGa is this weekend's duet with Metallica on the Grammy Awards telecast and a special appearance on Season 9 of 'RuPaul's Drag Race.' Tickets for the Seattle show on the 'Joanne World Tour' go on sale February 13 (10am) at LiveNation.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, or charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000.
