Re: 'Seattle seeks the dismissal of misdemeanor pot convictions,' Seattle Times, April 28, 2018

Dear Governor Inslee:

Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes is petitioning Seattle Municipal Court to vacate and dismiss all misdemeanor marijuana convictions rendered prior to its legalization, in Washington.

The Times article reminded me of President Jimmy Carter's action, in granting a blanket pardon, full and unconditional, to all draft dodgers during the Vietnam War. I'm suggesting you consider a similar action, in Washington, and grant a blanket pardon, full and unconditional, to all persons convicted of state or local misdemeanor marijuana possession, prior to the legalization of marijuana, in Washington. As the Times pointed out, expungement of such convictions can enhance a person's chances of employment and protect an immigrant's status with Immigration.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Steven L. Kendal
Seattle
