'Music in the American Wild' presents concerts in the North Cascades National Park August 21-25

Music in the American Wild will provide free, family-friendly activities and performances as a part of the North Cascades National Park Service Complex 50th anniversary celebrations Tuesday, August 21 - Saturday, August 25. Imagine hearing the sounds of classical music echoing across the Cascade Mountains as an ensemble of seven musicians brings a musical experience to the trails of the North Cascades.

Music in the American Wild began as a celebration of the 2016 U.S. National Park Service centennial. Eleven composers and eight performers came together to fill our country's grandest natural venues with a new opus of inherently American music. During the summer of 2016 our American Wild Ensemble toured seven celebrated national parks to premiere these new works in the amazing places that inspired them, supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. From caves and mountaintops, to forests and lakeshores, Music in the American Wild honored this major milestone in American conservation by letting new music ring out from sea to shining sea!

The Music in the American Wild initiative continues to celebrate the people, places, and ideas that have helped shape American history and culture. We focus on context-driven music that encourages our audiences to explore their environments through a different lens, engage with contemporary music in a new way, and foster the sense of community between performers, listeners, and the spaces that surround them.

'A Setting for Inspiration' Art Exhibit
The magnificent landscapes of the American West have inspired artists for generations. From idyllic paintings, sepia prints, soaring musical scores and pastoral writings, artists influence the public and politicians to protect these amazing places and often to establish national parks as an enduring heritage. Their art has introduced this natural world to people who might not otherwise experience such places, as well as inspired the next generation of visitors and artists.

'A Setting for Inspiration' Art Exhibit will be on display in the North Cascades Visitor Center in Newhalem and the Golden West Visitor Center in Stehekin through the 2018 summer season. Information about the North Cascades National Park is available at www.nps.gov/noca
