Alabama man traveling the country to capture stories of the LGBTQ community

2016 was the deadliest year on record for the LGBTQ community - a record that stood until it was broken in 2017. 2018 is on track to be even deadlier.

To help amplify the voices of the LGBTQ, this week, Marriott announced VideoOut founder Jordan Reeves as one of four grant recipients of the #LoveTravels Beyond Barriers Social Innovation Investment - inclusive of a $50,000 grant for their organization and a year of summits and mentorship opportunities from Marriott executives.

The Marriott International #LoveTravels Beyond Barriers program will provide $500,000 in grants to groups and individuals who are actively breaking down barriers. In addition to the first four grant recipients, the remaining $300,000 will be distributed via a merit competition that will award 30 individuals with $10,000 to accelerate their vision for how to advance inclusion, equality, peace and human rights through travel.

Since 2016, Jordan has been traveling the United States amplifying the voices of LGBTQ people by capturing their coming out stories for VideoOut, working alongside organizations and communities to build the largest library of coming out stories. The VideoOut library serves as a tool for advocacy, awareness and education.

More information on the contest, including how to enter, can be found at MarriottLoveTravelsContest.com.
