Transitional living program for Gay youth to dedicate a place of rememberence for victims of hate crimes
Transitional living program for Gay youth to dedicate a place of rememberence for victims of hate crimes
YouthCare, Big Trees, Inc., and Plant Amnesty are partnering to create a place of remembrance for victims of hate crimes at YouthCare's ISIS Program (5825 16th Avenue NE) on Friday, December 9th at noon. ISIS is a transitional living program for youth, 18-21, who identify as Gay, Lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or questioning. These youth were previously homeless or living on the streets. ISIS (Intervention, Support, Independence and Success) is one of three transitional living programs within YouthCare that support this age group. Currently, ISIS is home to 5 females and 5 males.

Big Trees, Inc. is rescuing and donating a large conifer for "Youth Care's ISIS" in the Ravenna neighborhood. Big Trees, Inc. is planting this tree, as the focal point and consistent reminder of victims of hate crimes-senseless crimes committed because of a person's sexual orientation or gender status. Many of the youth at YouthCare's ISIS have themselves been victims of such crimes. Big Trees, Inc. is a retail nursery in Snohomish specializing in large tree sales and transplanting and are complimenting the ongoing, donated landscaping work of Plant Amnesty.

Following the tree installation, the residents and staff of YouthCare's ISIS Program will gather to honor the victims of hate crimes. A small ceremony will be held with the unveiling of an engraved stone: "In memory of the victims of hate crimes, December 9, 2005."
