Hungary: Booksellers face anti-LGBTQ censorship
On August 13, Reuters brought forth the voices of Hungarian book sellers who may have to self-censor after conservative nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban placed restrictions on the sale of books with "LGBT themes." Such books intended for minors would have to be sold sealed and wrapped, and never within 200 meters of a school or church regardless of the intended audience. The head of the Association of Hungarian Book Publishers said this measure would severely limit access to LGBT-themed material in small towns, where many bookstores are within 200 meters of a school or church. A publishing house owner noted that, to enforce the law, the government would have to review the entire history of literature.

New Zealand: Parliament puts self-ID law to public review
Reuters reported on August 11 that New Zealand's new "self-identification" law is one step closer to passing, now being sent to a committee to receive public feedback. The law would make changing one's sex on their birth certificate far easier than before, to ensure "the best process" for transgender, non-binary and intersex people. Reuters noted that the country also passed legislation last month that outlaws all types of LGBT conversion programs.
