Reuters on May 6 brought forth the words of former Olympic weightlifter Tracey Lambrechs, who has concerns over the fairness of transgender athlete Lauren Hubbard competing in women's competitions. Hubbard, who has been eligible to compete since 2015, is on the cusp of being approved for the Tokyo Olympic games, which would make her the first transgender athlete to compete at an Olympics. Australia's weightlifting federation tried to block Hubbard from a competition in the past. New Zealand's weightlifting coach Simon Kent, meanwhile, has asserted that Hubbard meets the current International Weightlifting Federation criteria, and that he would adhere to them.
