Hungary: New anti-LGBTQ policies

Reuters reported June 18 on how Hungary's LGBTQ community has been responding to a number of Prime Minister Viktor Orban's anti-LGBTQ policies, which include bans on gender changes in government documents, and on the "display and promotion" of homosexuality and gender change among minors in both schools and media. A mass rally gathered on June 14 to protest the measures, and the European Commission has opened an inquiry on the matter.

Poland: March for equality

Reuters reported June 19 on a march in Poland, which brought thousands to the streets of central Warsaw to demand equality for LGBT people and an end to anti-LGBT discrimination by clergy, politicians, and others. Reporter Alan Charlish put the march in context by noting Poland's status as predominantly Catholic, which has been central to the conflict between the nation's progressive liberals and religious conservatives.
