Canada: Conversion therapy
Reuters reported June 30 on the Canadian Senate's decision to delay until September a bill that would ban LGBT conversion therapy. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, who pushed for additional sittings to see the bill, framed her disappointment at the delay in terms of its harm to Canadians as a whole. Conservative Sen. Don Plett called the push itself a liberal political stunt. The bill will come up again in September, but only if an election isn't called before then.

Poland: EU action possible
Reuters reported on June 30 that the EU is considering legal action against Poland for its anti-LGBTQ policies, which include a law banning same-sex couples from adopting children, and certain towns and areas declaring themselves "LGBT-free" zones. The zones in particular, officials said, may violate certain EU treaties. If grounds for an infringement procedure are found, Poland could be challenged to eliminate the zones or face significant fines. A Polish spokesperson said in response that there are no laws in Poland that discriminate against LGBT people.
