Barcelona: Russian LGBT family hopeful about advert
On August 24, Reuters brought forward the voices of a Russian LGBT family who, despite being forced to flee the country, believe the supermarket advertisement in which they appeared might bring greater normalcy to the idea of families like them. Yuma Yuma, whose partner is a woman, fled to Barcelona with her two adult daughters and her granddaughter after receiving death threats related to the advertisement, which made no reference to their sexual orientations but still aroused suspicion among anti-gay groups. Yuma's daughter Mila told Reuters that she thinks the advertisement had "broken new ground" in Russia.

Manchester, UK: Hundreds march against Pride funds
The BBC reported August 28 on a protest against Manchester Pride's management. More than 1,000 marchers turned out to decry the way funds were being split between executives and LGBT charities. One protestor, John Proctor, said that "The whole Board of Trustees need to look at what they're doing with Pride, and what they're doing it for, and listen to the strength of feeling from the community." Another protestor present said that Pride has become "a massive corporation." Manchester Pride, meanwhile, says that all their income is used to help deliver their charitable objectives.
