United Kingdom: Redmayne regrets taking Trans role
NBC reported November 22 on actor Eddie Redmayne's regrets for having played a Trans character in The Danish Girl, a 2016 film about one of the first people in the world to undergo gender-reassignment surgery. NBC noted the "demands at the time for the character to be played by a Trans actor." Redmayne told The Sunday Times, "No, I wouldn't take it on now. I made that film with the best intentions, but I think it was a mistake. The bigger discussion about the frustrations around casting is because many of the people don't have a chair at the table. There must be a leveling; otherwise we are going to carry on having these debates."

India: Lawyer lined up to be country's first openly Gay judge
The BBC reported November 18 on Saurabh Kirpal, a lawyer who could become the country's first openly Gay judge. Kirpal was recommended by the top court's collegium, and it is "widely believed" that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration will approve Kirpal, which would officially appoint him as a Delhi High Court judge. His colleagues approve of the decision. The BBC noted the broader context of India's decriminalizing of Gay sex in 2018, a case in which Kirpal was lawyer for two major petitioners. Public opinion seems to be lagging behind the development, however, and Kirpal believes that his appointment was delayed because of his sexual orientation.
