Melbourne: First out soccer star decries homophobic abuse
The Advocate reported on January 10 that out Gay Australian soccer player Josh Cavallo has responded to the homophobic abuse he experienced at a game on January 8, and on social media. "I'm not here to pretend that I didn't see or hear the homophobic abuse at the game last night," he said in an Instagram post. "There are no words to tell you how disappointed I was. This shouldn't be acceptable, and we need to do more to hold people accountable. I will never apologize for living my truth and most recently who I am outside of football." The Advocate added the context that Cavallo came out as Gay in October of last year, becoming the first active professional soccer player to do so. "Thank you [for] all the positive messages, love, and support," Cavallo went on. "Seeing that far outweighs the negativity."

London: Trans rights group protests the BBC
LGBTQ Nation reported January 9 on a protest held to object to the BBC's allegedly biased and discriminatory coverage of Trans communities. Protestors gathered outside the organization's headquarters in London, the fourth in a series of demonstrations in the last three months, after the BBC published a story by Caroline Lowbridge titled, "We're being pressured into sex by some trans women." The article cited a questionable survey by an anti-Trans organization, which claimed that Trans Lesbians commonly "pressure" cis Lesbians into sexual relationships.

Demonstrators had complaints about other articles as well. One protestor told Openly News, "I'm nonbinary..., and the BBC has been launching attacks on people like me and all these people out here today." Twitter user @mimmyumm used Google Analytics to point out that, of the top six most engaged articles on Trans topics last year, three of them were by the BBC, and all of those three "framed Trans people in a negative light.
