Nashville: Lesbian sues DHS for funding discriminatory adoption agencies
NBC News reported on October 16 that Kelly Easter of Nashville, Tenn., is suing the Department of Health and Human Services after a federally funded adoption agency rejected her application to adopt refugee children. The agency, called Bethany Christian Services, had otherwise ended its policy against allowing LGBTQ people to adopt, except its Nashville office was funded by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, which prohibits LGBTQ couples from applying. Easter, who is Christian herself, is suing the HHS, claiming that the department is violating her First and Fifth Amendment rights "by sanctioning and enabling discrimination and favoring certain religious beliefs."

US: Famous Gay couple celebrates birth of twins
NBC News reported October 18 on NSYNC singer Lance Bass's experiences so far with fatherhood, after Bass and his husband Michael Turkin had twins via a surrogate last week. Bass has posted pictures of his daughter and his son, with captions expressing his enthusiasm for the rigors of fatherhood. Bass and Turkin told People magazine that the road leading up to parenthood wasn't easy, involving many egg donors, surrogates, failed IVF treatments, and a miscarriage. "I think it's just amazing that science has gotten this far where we can make the healthiest human beings ever," Bass said. "And I hope in our lifetime, we'll be able to see the whole world be able to do this."
