Our endorsement for Washington House of Representatives 29th District Position 2 is Erin Chapman Smith! Chapman-Smith has spent a decade as a housing advocate for Queer and Trans youth, and now hopes to enact policy as a state legislator to help tackle the issues that those struggling with housing and affordability face in her district.
As a Transgender woman with a passion for community care, Chapman-Smith has worked for over ten years in shelters around the Puget Sound area, helping LGBTQIA+ people find housing. At first with YouthCare Seattle and now as executive director of ROOTS Young Adults Shelter, Chapman-Smith knows a thing or two about what resources people are lacking and the causes of their collective plight.
With the housing and broader affordability crises at an all-time high in Washington and her district in particular, she is looking to proactively address the problem by tackling their root causes whether they be wage stagnation, rising healthcare costs, a beleaguered social safety net, the cost of housing, etc.
Chapman-Smith promises to deliver policy that will not only alleviate but also bolster working-class people’s abilities to handle the challenges they face in everyday life.
Vote Chapman-Smith.
