Florida: Diversity and inclusion in Pride
The Philadelphia Gay News reported August 3 on South Florida Pride groups learning from the mistakes of the Pride festivals of the last few months. Notably, Boston Pride dissolved after community pressure regarding the organization's lack of diversity and inclusion. Miik Martorell, president of Pride Fort Lauderdale, says diversity and inclusion are part of his community's lived experience, as he himself attended a high school with Hispanic, Black, and white students. The board chair of Miami Beach Pride, Bruce Horwich, said the first step to approaching the issue is to have a board that represents the community.

Texas: Anti-Trans legislation halted for the moment
LGBTQ Nation reported August 8 on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's order that GOP legislators pass legislation banning young Trans athletes from school sports. Democrats responded to the governor's call for a special session by not showing up, which deprived the state legislature of enough votes and halted the attempt for the full 30 days it took for the session to end. Gov. Abbott has expressed his intention to call another special session with the same laws in mind.
