Boulder: First same-sex marriage for a sitting governor
NBC reported on September 16 that Colorado Gov. Jared Polis has married his same-sex partner of 18 years, in the United States' first same-sex marrirage for a sitting governor. "We are both excited for this new chapter in our lives together," Polis said in a Facebook post, "and our hearts are full with the blessings of health, love, and family." Polis is also the first Gay man elected governor in the US, but NBC noted that he isn't the first LGBT governor. That title goes to Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, who identifies as bisexual and was elected in 2016.

Washington, DC: DOJ reviewing policies on Trans inmates
The Associated Press reported on September 17 that the Justice Department is reviewing its policies on Transgender inmates, in the wake of the sentencing of Emily Claire Hari for the bombing of the Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington, Minnesota. Hari identifies as a Trans woman. Trump-era DOJ policies, which are still in effect, would have the prison system "use biological sex as the initial determination" for placement in federal prisons, and only use gender identity "in rare cases."
