Zurich: Easy name, gender change in civil code
Reuters reported on December 26 that people in Switzerland will be able to easily change their legal gender starting January 1, 2022, with a quick visit to the civil registry office. This makes Switzerland the latest of now five countries in Europe (the others are Ireland, Belgium, Portugal, and Norway) that allow a change of legal gender without hormone therapy, medical evaluations, or other hurdles. The option is restricted to those over 16 years of age and not under legal guardianship, and some semiautonomous regions in the country still require hormone treatment or "anatomical transition" for a legal change of gender. Some also require that a new name be in unofficial use for several years.

London: Ministers say gender change laws "outdated"
The BBC reported on December 21 that British MPs on the Women and Equalities Committee called the United Kingdom's gender change laws outdated, referring to the requirements that Transgender people receive a two medical diagnoses of gender dysphoria, pay a hefty fee of £140, and live in their "acquired gender" for two years before getting legal recognition. These calls for change come just over a year after ministers rejected changes to gender recognition laws in England and Wales.
